The most common activity this weekend-other than calling your mother-was sewing. Singer sponsored the world’s biggest sewing party with more than 12,000 participants spread over 37 states from the Big Apple to a little slice of Wisconsin called Hales Corner.
It was a sort of modern day tupperware party, with more range than just down the block thanks to House Party Inc. They dubbed it The Gateway to Sewing, barely concealing their hope that sewing catches on with a younger, hipper crowd across the country. And it worked—when they announced the event more than 16,000 consumers submitted applications to host one of the 800 parties.
Singer’s hoping their new machine makes a needle and thread look way less intimidating. And pairing pattern-making with cocktails doesn’t sound too terrible to us—if anything, it’s a far cry from Grandma’s super boring needlepoint pillow tutorials. Whoever said the free sewing lessons you acquired from Marseilles during your last stay at the small French would go to waste, you could just be the next host.
